About Lill Brothers

When Amos Lill began his successful seafood empire in the year 1855, refrigeration as we now know it wasn’t even invented. Deliveries in and around Hull and district, where the business began, were distributed from a different methods changing from horse power to the refrigerated fleet that the business relies on today.

Lill Brothers is one of the oldest trading businesses in Bradford established in the year 1855 specialising in the finest quality seafood, fresh and frozen fish.  Now based in Bradford, West Yorkshire located in the Bradford wholesale market, we serve the catering trade, schools and nursing homes etc.  Our customers are very pleased with our top quality fish, competitive prices and excellent Monday to Saturday delivery service.

Lill Brothers was established in Hull and was taken over by Shakil Rashid when the last of Lill brothers retired. Shakil, Bradford born and bred, was trained by Norman Lill and successfully managed to maintain the reputation and quality that the Company was and still is renowned for back in 1855, when the business was founded.

Amos transported his supplies to shops on his horse and cart. He didn’t have the benefit of modern technology assisting in swifter delivery services nor did he have to contend with supermarket competition.

However, he did, face many changing times during the generations of his family business; one of the greatest changes was the company move from Hull to Bradford following the development of the railway which enabled countrywide travel.

Its expansion led to the move of Lill Brothers to new premises, originally Shipley then later, St. James Wholesale Market where it continues trading more that 150 years after it began. The Company’s survival is testimony to its ongoing success.
